MITOCHONDRIAL DYSFUNCTION AS A KEY LINK IN THE PATHOGENESIS OF HUMAN LIVER DISEASE (PART TWO)
Abstract
In the first part of the article, the authors focused on the bioenergetic role of mitochondria and some causes of their dysfunction. The second part of the review presents recent advances in the functioning of mitochondrial contact sites with certain membrane-bound organelles, confirming the growing importance of studying mitochondrial interorganelle contact sites in the regulation of cellular homeostasis. Although the specific mechanisms of all these communications remain unclear, deciphering the connections within organelle networks is crucial for understanding how biological systems are constructed and why they can break down.
